Hakipu'u Hike

Yesterday we discovered the magic of the Ahupua'a Hakipu'u at Kualoa Ranch. We hiked Ma Uka up through the Lo'i (taro patches) to the hill crest overlooking Mo'oli'i island (aka China Man's hat). Along the way we learned of the mo'olelo or legends of Maui and the 'alae 'ula, the origins of the Kalo plant, and the battle between Hi'iaka (Pele's sister) and the Mo'o (great lizard) who protected the Ahupua'a.
