Good Morning, I hope everyone had an amazing 4th of July yesterday filled with food, fireworks, and fun in the sun. I believe all the students had fun due to the countless yawns we have witnessed this morning. I just wanted to update everyone on what we did on Monday. The Nature Studies class had a very special opportunity to
board and tour the Hawaiian sailing canoe, Hokulea. This double hulled sailing canoe uses ancient Polynesian celestial navigation to sail the open ocean without any instruments. This was a lucky
treat because the timing of Hokulea's statewide sail and subsequent
mooring off of Kualoa Beach Park that coincided with our field trip. Kumu
Tai Crouch took some great pics while we heard from active members of
the Polynesian Voyaging Society explain the significance of what they
are doing and the rich history behind Hokulea. The students got to
explore Hokulea inside and out and even attempt to move the giant
rudder. In addition to Hokulea the students also got to go canoe
sailing and paddling. Overall, it was a great trip and a truly once in a
lifetime experience.
